Here are some photos of baby Alasdair whose birth I photographed on 19/12/10, these pics were taken six days later. It’s quite amazing how quickly babies change, in the space of six days he’d started to lift his head and stretch his legs out. Toni and I made several attempts at getting him to curl up in an Anne Geddes baby style, but he refused to keep his legs tucked in! He was however, very well behaved throughout his photo shoot and we got some great shots. After a couple of weeks, babies lose their new born ‘look’ as they start to gain weight and fill out, so if you’d like to get some photos of your new arrival whilst he or she still looks new, a photo session in the first ten days is essential. It’s best to take photos after a feed, or have milk on hand throughout the shoot to top baby up. I like to work quite quickly before the baby I’m photographing gets too restless, there’s nothing worse than pushing a little person too far and leaving mum and dad with an inconsolable baby! I took these photos of baby Al on a outdoor sofa on Toni and Mark’s patio using a big sheet of voile to lie him on. A very simple set up, but when you’re six days old life doesn’t need to be complicated.
