One man and his dog

One man and his dog

“My Passion has never been for photography “in itself”, but for the possibility – through forgetting yourself – of recording in a fraction of a second the emotion of the subject, and the beauty of the form; that is, a geometry awakened by what’s offered.  The photographic shot is one of my favourite sketchpads.” – Henri Cartier-Bresson 1994

This photograph was taken in an informal settlement whilst I accompanied CLAW (community led animal welfare) on a mobile clinic there.  I saw this man walking down a hill towards me with his two dogs, heading for the clinic, and I was so astounded by how happy and excited his dogs were to be going on a walk with him.  I took a few shots of them walking towards me but thought maybe from the back would work better, as I took this shot the dog on his right leapt up off the floor.  Despite that fact that you can’t see anyone’s faces in this photo I think the emotion captured in their body language says enough.  This is one of my all time favourite photographs and it’s an image that unfolded before me and luckily for me I pressed the shutter at the right time.  I couldn’t have made this image happen however hard I tried.

This photograph is available as a limited edition framed print, of which a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to CLAW. Please contact me for more details – 076 564 4365 or emmaobrienphoto@gmail.com

Your work is exceptional and it is because of the heart behind the lens.
