Valentine’s Day dog portraits at the Sandton SPCA
I love photographing dogs and as February was the month of love, I organised a photo booth at the Sandton SPCA. Dog Moms and Dads brought their gorgeous hounds along for a mini portrait shoot to raise funds for the dogs and cats residing at the SPCA who were still looking for love.
Photographing multiple dogs is always a challenge, it’s not the first time I’ve photographed Chilli, Sugar, Vanilla and Candy, the four Jack Russells pictured above, as they also feature on the October page of the Sandton SPCA 2016 calendar, so I have a few tricks up my sleeve to get wayward hounds to sit still (ish). For the most part my tricks involve bribery and a great dog noises app on my phone to get my four legged clients to keep still. As you can see, it didn’t work very well here, but I love the diagonal composition of this photo and the dogs are also in age order, although that happened quite by chance!!
Here’s a glimpse into what was going on behind the scenes to get the shots on the day –

Lastly, here is a baby Einstein the Pomeranian. He was extremely good considering it was his first outing and posed beautifully for me.
