Introducing baby Bridget. This little lady worked the camera like a pro throughout her newborn shoot and we got some great shots. Also starring in the shoot were her big brother, Daniel, Mom & Dad and the resident four leggeds (when the cat eventually decided to join in). I took all the photos at the family’s home, using natural light.
I enjoy capturing expressions and moments in my photographs. This family shot captures happiness, fun and the spontaneity of life with small children and animals, it’s a totally unplanned moment of interaction which makes it so beautiful.
The key element to a successful shoot with small children is timing. Usually they are happiest in the morning after a nap and a meal, so I try to book shoots around them so we can get the best results. Newborn babies aren’t usually in a routine when I’m booked to photograph them, so I advise parents to feed them before I arrive and then I allow enough time for top ups feeds throughout the shoot so they can be kept happy. I prefer to photograph small children in their own homes, they tend to be more comfortable and parents are relaxed and happier which makes for better photographs.
I love it when children laugh and have fun during a shoot, there’s something wonderful about the sound of a child giggling. This portrait of Daniel and his Dad is such a happy moment, absolutely gorgeous.
