Meet Dexter and Dixie, Pretoria based Miniature Schnauzers with a passion for exploring. Their Mom, Madaleen, runs The Dog Blog South Africa, a website dedicated to all things dog related, so a test run of a location pet photography shoot was a given.
When we were discussing the shoot style and location, Madaleen expressed a wish to include the beautiful Jacarandas, so we headed to Government Street in Pretoria to capture some purple in the pictures. The Dog Blog is a proudly South African website, so it was also fitting that we included the Union buildings and Pretoria skyline in the photographs too.
I encourage my clients to actively participate in the planning of a shoot so that I can make sure that they love the end result. Portrait shoots should be unique to you, so choosing a venue that you love, or a time of year that you enjoy for your shoot will make the photos that much more personal for you.
Dixie and Dexter had a great time running around outside the Union Buildings. Madaleen tried her best to keep their beards clean for the photos, but at the first opportunity they got, they both trotted into a muddy puddle to have a cooling drink.
Photographing pets on location can be quite a challenge, especially busy locations. We had to wait for some photo bombers to get out of the back of our shots on numerous occasions and until they were tired at the end of the shoot the Schnauzers twins didn’t really want to sit still for long because there was so much other stuff going on around them.
But eventually their running around got the better of them and Dixie and Dexter did sit still long enough for me to get this shot.
If you have some cool pets and a special location in mind for a shoot, please contact me to start planning your location pet photography session.
