Maternity & newborn photography in Johannesburg and throughout Gauteng.
This gorgeous family had maternity & newborn photography sessions in their Johannesburg home. We took maternity photos at 36 weeks and then newborn photos when baby Rayan was 10 days old. Big sister Zara was an important person to include in both shoots, and as timing is everything with toddlers, we scheduled the sessions to fit in with her sleeps so she was as happy as possible.
I work using natural light in client’s homes and this house had huge windows which made it a pleasure to shoot in. We used the main bedroom for both shoots (bedrooms are usually super for natural light) and I made the most of a balcony area to shoot some backlit images, a theme that I carried through from the maternity shoot to the newborn shoot.
Baby Rayan took a little while to settle before we could start taking photos of him, but once he was fed and calm, he was brilliant. I enjoy photographing babies when they are awake so that I can capture some of their little expressions and the beginnings of their individual personalities. I have a few props that I bring along to newborn shoots which include a vintage suitcase and a large basket. My newborn photography style is very natural and I prefer to concentrate on capturing classic portraits of babies and their families rather than using lots of accessories.
