Dogs and babies are my favourite subjects to photograph, especially together. Over the course of the last couple of years, I’ve amassed quite a collection of portraits which I’ve put together here. All of the images have been shot on location in client’s homes, often the most relaxed environment for small humans and four legged children.
I frequently have requests from clients for portraits of their two and four legged children together and whilst sometimes it’s easier said than done, I love a challenge. Most of these pictures took a few attempts to take, there’s nothing quite like the behind the scenes chaos of a baby and/or dog shoot to have parents breathe a sigh of relief when I deliver photos that they didn’t think we’d get.
The babies and dogs are always supervised when I shoot pictures of them together, I’m very conscious of not endangering a baby or stressing a dog out during a photo shoot. If it doesn’t look like a shot is working, I move on.
This portrait won the Admired in Africa Newborn Gold Award in 2015.
It took about 20 minutes to get baby Tate to settle down and sleep and then the dogs were kept still with the promise of a tennis ball being held above the camera.
Sometimes the furry children insist on stealing the show.
This is baby number two for the family with the Bostons and we did a similar photo with Tanner and his doggy siblings.
