A newborn photo session on location in Johannesburg with this little guy, his big sister and slightly tired parents. The best time to do a newborn photo shoot is within the first 10 to 14 days of a baby’s arrival which is usually when everyone is at their most fragile after coming out of hospital and adjusting to a lack of sleep. Small humans change so quickly though, that in order to capture them at their teeniest and wrinkliest, timing is of the essence.
We had a pretty smooth newborn photo session, the room was warm, baby only had to have one top up feed and his big sister was an absolute gem.
When there are other small people involved with a shoot, I like to get family portraits and photos involving them done first, so they aren’t kept waiting for ages which could result in an irritated child and stressed parents. We got all the big sister pics done in the first 40 minutes of the shoot so she could tootle off and play whilst we then concentrated on baby’s portraits.
It looks like all went swimmingly (which it did, mostly) aside from Mom getting peed and pooped on towards the end of the shoot which we took as our cue to wrap things up and let the little guy get back to sleep. He had insisted on keeping an eye on the proceedings for the whole 2 hour shoot!
And, that’s a wrap.
