I’m not sure who enjoyed this cake smash shoot more, me, the dogs (scroll down for them) or baby Josh. The whole family, including Granny, came through to the studio to watch the cake being decimated in celebration of Josh’s first birthday.
Before the mess began, we shot some family portraits and attempted some pictures of Josh and his furry siblings. The dogs did a slightly better job of sitting still than the man of the moment, who was determined to explore the studio rather than pose for pictures. This set up lasted all of 5 seconds before the trio dashed off in different directions.
Pics with Mom and Dad were slightly more successful and we almost got the whole team looking at the camera.
The cake was of big interest (thankfully) and it didn’t take the birthday boy long to get his hands (and face) covered in icing.
Cakes can also be used for balancing – I bet you didn’t know that.
Taking a quick break to spread the icing around properly.
Before getting back to the sugar and the happiness it brings.
I love photographing little people, they have such gorgeous expressions. I last photographed Josh when he was just a few days old – see his newborn shoot here – so it was lovely to see him again.
Once the birthday boy had had enough (the cake smash was over in a matter of minutes) the dogs were let loose with the cake…..
I think the award for most ridiculous facial expression goes to Scarlet the Weimaraner.
