Maternity portraits shoots are always fun. There’s the anticipation of the impending arrival of a baby and couples are happy and very much ‘in love’ which is fabulous to photograph. I met these guys at Delta Park in Johannesburg to shoot their maternity portraits which, of course, included their beloved dogs.
Shooting at the tail end of winter meant that finding some green grass was slightly challenging and resulted in a long walk through black jacks to get to this wooded area (the dogs were very happy). This is a bit of a go to spot at Delta for me in winter time, I like to back light my portraits which requires some coverage in the background, so the trees worked perfectly. You can check out a baby birthday shoot I did in the same spot here.
We met slightly later in the afternoon too, which is always a win for great lighting.
The dogs were constantly on the look out for friends to play with.
Baby is due in a few weeks time, so I’ll be off to Mom and Dad’s home to shoot newborn portraits.
Maternity portraits are best when taken between 32 and 36 weeks and the optimum time for newborn portraits is within the first 10 to 14 days of baby’s arrival. For more information about maternity, birth and newborn photography, please contact me.
