Braamfontein is one of my favourite places to shoot portraits in Joburg. It’s edgy and cool with loads of different options for backgrounds and a fabulous urban vibe. I met with this gorgeous couple to shoot their maternity portraits early on a chilly Saturday morning and here are the results.
Maternity shoots are best timed between 32 and 36 weeks when there is a definite bump, but you’re not feeling too uncomfortable and big. Twins are best timed a bit earlier. For any friends or family of this couple, there is one baby on board, don’t panic.
Nelson Mandela Bridge is such an iconic Joburg structure and it’s a brilliant place to shoot, the only downside is the pedestrian traffic, we were dodging photo bombers in between shots.
This shot took a bit of persuasion, I thought the shutter doorway would look very cool, but the festering smell of pee was a bit off putting. So in the spirit of suffering for your art, mom and dad to be held their breath and we got the shot.
We were all slightly happier when we could get back into the fresh air again.
I’m always game for a photographic adventure in downtown Johannesburg, so if you’re keen on some portraits with an urban vibe, please get in touch with me to chat.
