I love working with clients year after year and watching little people grow into bigger people. I’ve been working with this family since 2014 when Kayleigh was a bump and I’ve photographed her regularly ever since. She is infamous for not smiling when there’s a camera pointing at her, thankfully the curse seems to have lifted as I got lots of smiles for their pregnancy and family portrait shoots.
Maternity shoot number one took place at Delta Park with gorgeous flower crowns and pretty tulle dresses. It’s wonderful when clients get creative with their shoots, Mommy has a friend who supplied the tulle and fabric for the pregnancy shoots which took the photos to another level (I have his number if you like these photos).
The Mommy and daughter matching flower crowns were a lovely touch, as was the colour coordination.
We had some comedy lipstick issues during the outdoor maternity shoot and also when we took photos at home with baby Chase. Both times Kayleigh ended up covered in Mommy’s lipstick, the first time from too many kisses when Mommy was wearing bright red and then at home when she ran off with Mom’s Christian Dior pink lipstick and put all of it on. You’ve got to love the comedy timing of small humans.
Our second pregnancy shoot instalment was at home for some romantic portraits.
I joined the family in theatre for baby Chase’s birth which you can see here.
Then two weeks later, I headed back to the family’s home for his newborn and family shoot. The one thing I notice about second baby shoots is that they become less about the new baby and more about the family as a whole, particularly when there are siblings. Kayleigh was enamoured with her new baby brother was very cooperative for a few shots….
Baby Chase however was not that keen on the idea of a newborn shoot and insisted on being fed three times during the shoot to keep the tears at bay.
So whilst he was busy gulping milk down, I took a few photos of Kayleigh messing around on the bed.
After his pit stops, the main man was ready to be included in the shoot again with Mom and Dad (his sister has disappeared with the Christian Dior lipstick by this point).
I’m happy to report that despite all the very concerned faces Chase has in his photos, he has now started to smile beautifully and looks less worried.
