Portraits of the dogs at CLAW (Community Led Animal Welfare) – September 2026

My photography career began with rescue dogs, and they have remained an important feature over the past 15 years as my business has grown.

CLAW (Community Led Animal Welfare) has been a firm fixture in my schedule since March 2011 when I walked in to talk about assisting the team with some photography, walked out with a dog and have since adopted three more dogs from them.

CLAW is predominantly a veterinary hospital, that serves the local communities near Durban Deep by providing affordable and essential care for their animals who would otherwise not have access to a vet. The fact that they have animals in their care awaiting adoption is a by-product of their work and as often as I can, I head through to the clinic to photograph the dogs in need of homes.

On this visit, I was greeted by a sea of puppies, most of which are brown like this fella, all of whom were cute as buttons and filled to the brim with personality and charm.

CLAW’s dogs are, for the most part, of the mixed breed variety and it’s nigh on impossible to tell what breed mix might be making up their dogs. From experience, I can tell you that what a CLAWbie lacks in sophisticated looks, they will more than make up for with their sparkling personality.

If you’ve seen a dog here that takes your fancy, you can find out more about adopting them by contacting Michelle, the CLAW adoptions manager via Whatsapp on 083 395 3011.

And if you’re not able to adopt, you can support CLAW by sharing these adoption posts on from their Facebook page to yours – the CLAW page is HERE

My ability to donate my time to photograph the dogs at CLAW is only possible thanks to my clients. When you support my business by booking a portrait shoot for your dog or family, you make my pro bono work a regular reality.
