Catch Happiness – Doggy Action Photography!

I’m fortunate to be invited to exhibit my work on an annual basis at the Foto ZA Gallery in Johannesburg which presents me with a (fun) challenge in creating a new photography series each year.
2024’s series of work was created at a time when I think we all needed to see some cheer. My aim was to create a set of dog portraits that would make the person looking at them smile and I’m confident that the mission was very much accomplished.

Photographing these dogs was as fun as it looks. Treats were literally flying around the studio! Some dogs did an epic job of catching the snacks, some just allowed themselves to be hit in the face and some made valiant attempts even if they didn’t manage to grab anything in the process.

I don’t usually venture into the kitchen area of my house, but for this project, I broke my no cooking rule and made popcorn for the dogs (it flies through the air really well). Alas, like most of my other rare cooking attempts this one fell flat and none of the dogs really liked it… So we had to revert back to tastier morsels.

If you like these colourful, fun, action portraits and you’d like to commission a set of treat catching photographs of your own dog, please get in touch with me here.
