Ziggy the Bostie puppy photographed at home

I thought I’d died and gone to heaven when I walked into this shoot. I’m used to hanging out with brown puppies at my house and at CLAW, so to have the opportunity to photograph exquisite little Boston terrier puppy Ziggy was really very special.

Ziggy had just about mastered ‘sit’ before my arrival, but he was only due to start puppy school after our shoot, so he surprised his mom and I (who were expecting a little bit of chaos) with impeccable posing and excellent behaviour.

I’m often asked by dog parents if their creatures need to be well trained for a photoshoot. Whilst it makes my life a little easier the more commands a dog can follow (I once photographed a Beagle who could do handstands on command which was incredibly impressive), it’s not a prerequisite. If your dog (or cat) responds to food or toys, I pretty much guarantee you that I can get some fabulous portraits.

Ziggy literally just sat on the couch and ran through his repertoire of cute little expressions.

Then we went outside to change things up a bit which involved lots of mad zoomies and biting his mom’s ankles and trying to chew my camera strap.

Puppies are no different to children in that they get tired pretty quickly, so once the garden play had exhausted him and he needed to recharge before his next round of crazy, we waited for him to fall asleep so I could get this shot.
