Family Portrait Photography Johannesburg

An afternoon of fun was had by all in the creation of these family portraits in Braamfontein. Not only did we have two small humans, we had Blaze the Boxer joining us too.

Braamies has such grungy character, it makes for a fantastic (and slightly off piste) family portrait shoot location. I love the graffiti, shutter doors and of course the bridge.

You cannot go wrong with a Jozi afternoon blue sky and lines and lines of trains.

Blaze made sure I got his good side in every photo.

The little people were lots of fun to photograph, I’m constantly having to up my entertainment game to get kids to really laugh. My jokes for kids are quite limited, mostly they were laughing at the noises I made to get Blaze to look at the camera. Apparently cat noises also work on children.

I’m a firm believer in creating a fun experience for everyone I photograph. Sometimes people aren’t keen to be part of a photo shoot, which I’m very aware of as a professional photographer. We’re often worried about how we look when we smile or simply feel self conscious about being the centre of attention during a portrait session. It’s my job to put my clients at ease and make each portrait session a brilliant experience to remember.

Children and adults (and dogs) look their best in photographs when they are relaxed and having fun. Portrait shoots should evolve over the course of the hour or two that they last. Capturing spontaneous laughter and happiness is the name of the game and these fabulous moments often need a bit of coaxing to emerge.

No shortage of that here.
