Female entrepreneur and DJ Lisa Woollacott

This lovely lady is a dogmom by day and a sassy DJ by night. Lisa’s busy launching her new DJ brand and website, so we got together to shoot some funky images in Braamfontein.

Personal branding photography is much more than just a headshot shoot (if you need pics for LinkedIn, a profile shoot is perfect – more info here), it’s all about capturing the unique character of the person behind a brand. Lisa works in nightclubs and at parties, her images need to reflect that she’s cool, hip and looks the part.

Her outfits were carefully styled and as her business is called ‘Red Lips & Headphones’ we featured, yep you guessed it, red lips and headphones.

Braamfontein is a great location to shoot in. It’s got lots of funky nooks and crannies to work in, it’s relatively safe, as Joburg goes, and we went during the week which meant the best spots weren’t teeming with people.

I carefully plan personal branding shoots with my clients. It’s important that I’m clear on the shots needed and that my clients get the results they’re after. We planned via a Pinterest board (as if I needed an excuse to spend time pinning photos) and I was able to tick shots off as we went along.

A personal branding shoot should always include portrait style shots as well as more informal images that can be used on social media to talk about work you’re doing or topics you’re sharing. We love to know about the people behind the brands we buy from, this is where personal branding photography really comes into its own. There’s more info on why it’s important and what to look for when you book a personal branding photographer here.

Our shoot remit called for a rooftop with a skyline view. Easier said than done (if you know of any great and easily accessible rooftops in Joburg, please do tell), eventually we ended up at Rosebank Mall. Rather than risk Lisa’s life by making her balance on the edge of a ten story building, we found some road barriers that we moved so she could pose on the edge without living on the edge.

If you like these images and you’re tempted to commission a set of your own. Please contact me here. We can arrange a convenient time to chat about what you need from a shoot and discuss suitable venues etc.
