Dachshund Dog Portraits – photoshoot in Johannesburg
Few things make me happier than being invited into a beautiful and stylish home to photograph dogs. Especially when said dogs are such an integral and beloved part of the family.
Miguel and Sebastian, long haired and quite senior Dachshunds, welcomed me with gusto as I arrived for their portrait session and proceeded to follow me around as I unpacked my gear, that is until their Mom appeared with chicken, then I was totally ignored. Clearly I’m not even as good as chopped liver, LOL.

Originally we’d scheduled the shoot at my studio because Mom wanted some uncluttered, clean portraits against white and black backgrounds, however after further discussions, it turned out that Sebastian was epileptic which with studio flash would have been a disaster, so we reconvened at their home. I used a portable black backdrop and then took advantage of a white section of wall in the front garden for the contrasting shots. All these shots were taken using natural light only.

The boys’ portraits are now hanging on the walls at home alongside their parents’ art collection (I feel very flattered to have my work hanging alongside some incredible pieces of art). I adored this shoot and being able to capture some regal photographs of two very handsome dogs.
