Horse Photographer in Pretoria

Meet Duante, one of the most beautiful horses I think I’ve clapped eyes on and, I’m very pleased to report, his personality was equally charming.

Being a horse photographer is very much like being a dog photographer aside from the fact that my usual ear perking tricks needed to have their ante seriously upped. Ears forward is what’s required for horse portraits to avoid even the most beautiful of beasts looking donkey-esque which wasn’t the easiest look to achieve.

In order to get Duante to look fabulous, we rustled packets, threw leaves in the air and in the end resorted to having another person (to camera right) doing what can only be described as an interpretive dance.

Thankfully it worked like a charm for both horse and owner.

We met for the shoot at Duante’s stables in Pretoria and timed the shoot later in the afternoon for the best lighting. I’m pleased to report that aside from a small incident with a pond (Duante wanted to play in the water for longer than we let him) the shoot went swimmingly.

I absolutely loved this shoot and I’m very keen to photograph more horses. If you’ve got equines who love to pose, please get in touch for pricing and package details.
