Pregnancy portraits on location in Kramerville, Sandton

Locations are proving to be tricky to find as a photographer working in the time of COVID-19. Outdoor venues aren’t an option right now because of the brown, winter ick and ‘gathering’ restrictions, so it was a stroke of luck to have spotted an ad on Instagram for Sir James van der Merwe as a photoshoot location for this maternity session.

In case you’ve not been, Sir James van der Merwe is a very cool bar and popular wedding venue in Kramerville, Sandton – one level up from Razor Charlie and Amatuli Artifacts and one level down from Katy’s Palace Bar, another super popular wedding location (back when we were allowed to do things like get together to celebrate marriages).

We started our maternity shoot at the top in Katy’s and made the most of the giant windows and funky walls.

Then we took a stroll down to the treasure trove that is Sir James VDM.

An on the bar shot is a Sir James shoot essential and we couldn’t resist a shot with the Corona sign, because, well Corona.

Sir James is a pretty unique location for a shoot. It’s got a black & white tiled floor, loads of funky pictures on the walls, a collection of traveller’s trinkets and some cool pieces of vintage furniture.

I loved creating the images for this shoot. If you’re looking for some relaxed, natural and beautiful maternity or couple portraits, please get in touch with me. I have a special running throughout lockdown – click here to contact me.
