Playful Houndy Madness: 150 Dogs, Two Weeks, One Epic Photo shoot!
If you’ve ever wondered what 150 dogs in two weeks looks like… it’s equal parts chaos, comedy, and cuteness overload! In March this year, I packed my camera gear (and my patience!) and headed to Playful Houndy Doggy Daycare in Centurion for one of the most joy-filled, fur-covered photography projects of my career.
Over two whirlwind weeks, I photographed every shape, size, and level of crazy imaginable — from bouncy Labradors and soulful rescues to tiny Chihuahuas with big opinions. Each pup brought their own unique energy to the lens, and the result? A collection of portraits that perfectly capture the spirit of Playful Houndy — fun, friendship, and an undeniable love of dogs.
Organised Chaos at Its Best
Photographing one dog can be an adventure. Photographing 150? That’s an Olympic event (I probably deserve a medal). The team at Playful Houndy Doggy Daycare made it all quite easy. With tails wagging, tongues lolling, and the occasional photo bomb, every session was a delightful reminder of why I love what I do.
I set up a fun blue backdrop, used endless treats and squeaky toys as bribery, and discovered that some dogs will do anything for a snack (while others prefer to just sit and stare into your soul).
Why Daycare Dogs Are a Photographer’s Dream
Dogs who spend their days socialising at daycare tend to be confident, expressive, and full of personality — and that makes for fantastic photos. The Playful Houndy pups were no exception. Their comfort with people and other dogs created natural, dynamic moments that shine through in every image.
It’s always a joy to work with a business that celebrates dogs for who they are — messy, mischievous, affectionate little beings who remind us daily to play more and stress less.
Behind the Lens
Shooting such a large project required precision, patience, and a sense of humour. Between slobbery kisses, the occasional escapee, and countless wagging tails, I captured hundreds of portraits that reflect the heart and soul of the Playful Houndy community.
Each photograph tells a story — of friendship, fun, and the pure joy that only dogs can bring.
