Photographed on location at Fynn Studio in Parktown, Johannesburg

Photographers are notorious for resisting being in front of the camera, so when I suggested to Daria that we shoot some profile portraits for her website, I was met with a little bit of hesitation.

Alongside my own photography business, I run Mentoring for Creatives, helping other photographers with the business side of things. Daria and I have been working together for the past four months to get her food photography empire up and running (her work is phenomenal, you can check it out here) and the final task was to get some portraits of her on her brand new website.

Going to the trouble of investing time and money into profile portraits can seem daunting. With the exception of professional models, I’m yet to meet anyone who is thrilled at the prospect of having their photograph taken, however we all love to see who we’re going to be working with when we book a service provider.

Formal studio portraits work brilliantly for executives and CEOs, however, for creative people a more relaxed and natural style of photoshoot is what’s needed.

Daria and I met at Fynn Studios in Parktown, Johannesburg for her shoot. The natural light is great and we had plenty of space to get some shots of her in action shooting and styling food, editing her images and being her fabulous self.

As well as for website ‘about me’ pages, professionally shot profile portraits are great to share on social media for ‘meet me’ introduction posts as well as to share some ‘behind the scenes’ of your creative process (people LOVE to know about this). The general rule is to use the same profile image on all your platforms (whatsapp, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest etc) so you become recognisable to your potential clients.

I’ll happily help you with the planning of your profile shoot and guide you through the process so it’s fun and you get the images you want.
