The 2022 Sandton SPCA charity calendar photographed in my Centurion studio

2022 marks the 11th incarnation of the Sandton SPCA charity calendar. A project that began after I pitched the idea to the Sandton SPCA committee back in 2011 when I adopted my little Dachshund Jeremy, has morphed into an institution I’m incredibly proud of.

Each calendar has a yearly theme to give the series of images some consistency and the loose theme we came up with for 2022 was sweet dreams which I interpreted in an Alice in Wonderland kind of fashion.

Getting dogs to sit still is usually pretty easy, getting the cats to cooperate is another story. I shoot the calendar over a weekend in my Centurion studio to make sure the image set up and lighting is consistent, however being off their usual premises can make cats a bit unsettled, so I never quite know what’s going to happen.

As it turned out, the most action came from cover star Leo who decided to leap onto the studio light (thankfully covered by a large softbox). Khan was very chilled and Zoey Cat literally sat like a professional model.

All the animals in the 2022 Sandton SPCA calendar were adopted from the SPCA and brought in by their forever owners for the shoot.

I’m sure you’ll agree that the variety of creatures here is quite remarkable.

The calendar stars brilliantly represent the range of delightful cats and dogs that you’re likely to find at a shelter. For more information about adopting from the Sandton SPCA, please visit their website here.
