Beach photoshoot with dogs – Llandudno

I’m not sure exactly what it is about photoshoots on a beach, but I LOVE them. This is my good friend Jacki with her dogs Indie and Max on Llandudno Beach in Cape Town. I managed to persuade her (there wasn’t much persuasion needed in all honesty) to let me photograph her on the beach with the four legged family when I was last in Cape Town.

“I’m not photogenic” is a phrase I often hear from folks before a shoot. Being photographed (unless you’re a professional model) can feel awkward and often elicits great trepidation. It’s not uncommon for clients to arrive for a shoot feeling really nervous and then surprise themselves by actually having fun once we get going.

Having fun is the key to being photogenic and I like to keep my shoots relaxed, light hearted and create an experience that’s really enjoyable for my clients (human and dog alike). I’m not one for rigidly posing people, I prefer to let a shoot unfold and capture the moments along the way, hence the Storybook style. Thank goodness really because the dogs weren’t in instruction following mode when the sand and sea was distracting them.

The few instructions I gave during this shoot included, “run away from the dogs”, “Max please leave the seaweed we can’t have that in the shot”, “don’t shake your wet fur on the camera” and “thanks, that’s great, please run across the beach for the tenth time”.

At one point the shoot was invaded by several other dogs, so we let them carry on out of frame.

Before long they reappeared though because they can’t be without their mom for longer than a nano second.

Photography is, for me, about creating and capturing memories of happy moments. Dogs age, children grow and photographs are the record that remains. You don’t, however, have to wait for a special occasion to have a photoshoot (we didn’t with this shoot, we just decided to head out and have fun).

So, if you’ve not had photos taken of you, your family, your kids or your dogs for ages, here’s an invitation to book a shoot.

You can get in touch with me here to find out more about photoshoot pricing and packages. I’m based in Centurion, however I’m often in Cape Town, so if a beach shoot is your thing, I’m always sea and sand ready.
