With Lovely Lily rescue dog portraits too

This distinguished gentle man is Luca and believe it or not, he’s a rescue. I photographed him a few years ago when he was at Dogtown South Africa where he’d been surrendered by his previous owners and was awaiting adoption. The photo I took of him at Dogtown caught the eye of his (now) Mom, so it really was fabulous to see him again.

Lily here is also a rescue from Sandton SPCA. She wasn’t quite as confident in front of the camera as Luca, she was more interested in where the snacks were being dispensed from. Look closely and you’ll see she has the most adorable underbite…

Luca is the second poodle his Mom has owned, her first black Standard Poodle was adopted from Sandton SPCA along with Lily (don’t underestimate the pedigree dog gems that can be found at your local shelter), but sadly he passed away last year so I didn’t get to meet or photograph him.

I was quite amused by how photogenic Luca was, I think he enjoyed all the attention. He looks like he could be hanging out at a fabulous London gin bar in this shot – no posing requested here, he just sat like this…

Lovely Lily, still keeping an eye on the snacks.

Dog portraits like these of course deserve to be on the wall, so I’m printing a triptych of portraits for Luca and Lily’s home.
