Photographed at Delta Park, Johannesburg for Pet Prints Magazine

Don’t be alarmed by the crazy look on Sushi’s face (I don’t think it’s necessary for me to point out which one Sushi is), that’s her regular look. These two French Bulldogs and their Mom of course are pretty special which is why they featured on cover of Pet Prints Magazine at the end of last year.

Megan Taylor is passionate about making life better for animals and she started The Sushi & Panda Foundation in 2017 (named after her two Frenchies) to raise funds for outreach work in rural, township areas of South Africa. The foundation’s main focus is to sterilise as many animals as possible to help reduce the number of unwanted pets that end up at shelters and often ultimately end up being put to sleep.

What started as an NPO raising funds for animals in need, has grown into quite the organisation. The Sushi & Panda Foundation now has a permanent clinic in Touws River Township in the Cape where local residents can bring their animals for treatment that they could otherwise never afford and thanks to the Haven, over 77 animals have found new loving homes across South Africa.

Including Nala, who is the newest addition to the Sushi & Panda household. Nala found her way to Megan during an outreach and Sterilisation day in Touws River. A policeman had collected her and her four siblings up after witnessed them being thrown out of a car. The other four were adopted and Nala stayed.

Nala didn’t join in for our Delta Park shoot. As a result of her less than great start to life, she’s very nervous in new places so stayed home with Granny whilst the Frenchies posed their hearts out.

We also shot some studio portraits of the terrific twosome which featured in the 2021 Sushi & Panda calendar – you can get your paws on one of those right here.
