Braamfontein or Maboneng – take your pick for fun and funky shoots this winter

Winter in Gauteng is in full swing, the grass is brown, the trees are naked and whilst studio shoots are awesome, if you prefer the great outdoors, nature cannot provide.
The city however can 🙂

I’m a huge fan of shooting in Johannesburg. Both Braamfontein and Maboneng are interesting and funky locations for both dog and family portrait shoots.

As always, timing is key. Braamfontein is best on certain days, Maboneng on others.

I love shooting sets of urban style portraits, they make a cool change from a park shoot and if you’re looking for an alternative to the normal family photoshoot venue, look no further.

Maboneng is full of colourful graffiti which changes from week to week.

Braamfontein has grungy shutter doors.

And of course the iconic Nelson Mandela bridge.

There’s something quite nostalgic about shooting in your home city, especially in areas of it that you might not normally visit.

Safety can be a concern in the middle of Jozi. There are security guards in both locations and I’ve found that the addition of a dog in a photo session generally helps ;).

If I’ve sparked some curiosity and you’d like to find out more about shooting some city portraits with your family, favourite person or your beloved pooch, get in touch with me and let’s chat.
